Joram

Joram is the name under which I record my music.

Moments of Clarity

It will probably be obvious to you that I enjoy minimalist/idm/ambient sounds if you listen to this album. The entire record, aside from several public-domain breaks, was made with Jeskola Buzz (see below). The track “Solipsism” was licensed by celebrity fitness trainer Joel Harper for his “FitPack” DVD and was featured on a Magnatune electronica compilation at SXSW and MIDEM. Other album tracks received regular radio play at FSU’s V89 (thanks Brett Thompson!), and are otherwise scattered around cyberspace under a Creative Commons license as background music for audio/visual podcasts and mp3 playlists. Excellent!

Software

I use(d) a free digital audio workstation (DAW) called Jeskola Buzz to create a great deal of my music. At that point, I didn’t even know what a compressor was! Now I use Buzz, Logic Express, ixi software, Audacity, and SoundFlower for their unique sound-sculpting abilities. Since I have migrated entirely to Macs over the last several years, I now run a virtual machine in order to continue composing with Buzz. This means that: 1) I run Ubuntu inside of a VMware fusion partition. 2) Within Ubuntu, I run WINE, a windows emulator (but not exactly an emulator). 3) On top of this I run Buzz. It’s a worthwhile hassle.

Current Work

It’s been far too long since I shared any new music. Over the last few years I’ve been learning new software and trying to get a better grasp of different audio production techniques. When I have new music prepared, I’ll upload it for your enjoyment. For free, of course.
